Evacuated Tubes

                                                   Evacuated Tubes

Heat your own hot water - Evacuated Solar Tubes

What is it?
Solar thermal panels use free energy from the sun to heat domestic water
Solar radiation, when it collides with each glass tube is absorbed by the liquid inside.
The heated liquid is circulated into your home boiler system.

The benefits
Very little maintainance. Fully installed hot water system.
You may not need to run your boiler in the summer to heat your water.
Can provide up to 5.5% of energy - related CO

The Benefits of Evacuated Solar Tubes

Solar Thermal Water systems are very efficient nowadays and can be tailored to your requirements to produce a cost-effective solution that significantly reduces the amount of gas, oil and electricity required to heat water in your home.

The tubes can reach well over 200 degrees easily heating water to 90 degrees Celsius on hot days and to 60 degrees Celsius even in the winter. This simple system is completely sealed and needs minimal maintenance over its lifespan. The advantage of using evacuated tubes is that they will work even during the coldest winter months.

Due to the round shape of the evacuated tube, the sun is perpendicular to the surface of the glass for most of the day, resulting in higher heat collection and heat output all the way from morning through to late afternoon.

Our Evacuated Solar Tubes provide a means to dramatically reducing your annual hot water bills, and in most cases  planning permission is nor required (we do advise that you check with your local planning office)

How Evacuated Solar Collectors  work

There are two main types of systems in the market: "Flat Panel Solar Water Heating system " and "Evacuated tube systems". Evacuated tube systems these are more advanced in design than flat plate, and so tend to be more expensive.

Vacuum or Evacuated Tubes are made from glass – typically ultra-strong and heat resistant with a double wall construction. The glass on the inner tube is coated on its outer surface with an absorbent coating, and on its inner surface with a reflective coating.

The evacuated tubes are composed of two glass tubes which in each case are half spherically closed on one side and fused together on the other side. The gab between the tubes is evacuated. In addition, the internal glass tube is provided with on its external surface with a highly selective layer and thus designed as an absorber. It is an aluminum nitrite sputter layer which is characterized by very low emission and very good absorption.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take to install my system?
Two or three days in most cases depending on the type of property and system.

How much CO2 will my system save?
Around half a tonne each year. This is dependant on how much water you use, and how you heat your water at present

How do you stop the system freezing?
Our installations use an in-direct method of heating your hot water via a glycol or antifreeze mixture, therefore freezing will not be a problem.

How do I calculate my hot water usage?
When choosing a solar system for hot water, we must first determine our need for hot water, in quantity as well as in preferred temperature. The typical temperature used for calculation is 45°C, but the required quantity must be calculated according to specific daily  needs.

Hot Water Usage Calculation
In family residences, the needs for hot water remain stable during the whole year. An indication for the needs is given by the number of individuals living in the building (or apartment). Usually, the per capita daily consumption of hot water at 45°C is calculated taking into consideration of the following:

Low consumption: 35 liters per capita / day

Medium consumption: 60 liters per capita / day
High consumption: 80 liters per capita / day

In the case where we want to connect the solar installation to the washing machine and the dishwasher, we would have to increase the calculated daily needs of consumption as follo
ws:

Washing Machine: 20 liters / day (1 wash per day)

Dishwasher: 20 liters / day (1 wash per day)

Example:
A family of 4 needs around 240 liters of hot water daily in order to have a medium daily consumption. (60 liters per capita x 4 persons) If we include a washing machine and a dishwasher, then we must calculate a consumption of 280 liters per day.
